Our Sweet Little Valentine

Our Baby GIRL Emily Jane was born on Valentine's Day at 11:17pm!! She weighed 6# 15 oz and was 20.5 inches long. She is the cutest baby I have ever seen. :-)
This picture cracks me up. Mark and Emily are bright eyed and I can hardly open my eyes!! :-)

Emily ended up needing to stay for almost three extra days because her bilirubin level was high. Our blood types did not agree with each other!

Tara--I loved the Wubbanubs when you had the Sams, but now I can really appreciate how wonderful they are!! They are totally a must have!!! Emily loves her frog and now Ella Bella Elephant is on her way! :-)

For some reason, the pictures are taking forever to upload this morning!! I'll post more later.

Baby Projects!

Wow, it has been pretty much 3 months since I last updated my blog!!! Here is some of what I've been up to lately.

We are planning to cloth diaper, so I made a wet bag for the dirty diapers. This was my first time sewing with PUL fabric (a lined, waterproof fabric) and also first time sewing on a zipper. I think it was a success! Now, I just need to trial it to make sure it won't leak! :-) Here is the tutorial I used to make this wetbag: http://dilleydally.blogspot.com/2009/03/wetbag-tutorial.html

This project I'm still working on...the crib quilt. I am using a patten called Diamonds Royale from the book Keepsake Baby Quilts from Scraps by Julie Higgins

Here's a pic before I cut and squared the quilt top:

When it was squared

Now! I have the border done, it was tricky to miter the four corners with 3 fabrics that had to be matched up...don't look too closely or you will see that it is truly homemade and not perfect. :-) I'm sure my little baby won't care. I really love how it's turning out. Right now, it's taped to the nursery floor being pinned to the batting and backing. My goal for the next few days is to figure out what quilting pattern I'm going to do, so I can quilt and bind it. Then this project will be behind me!!

Here's the baby's crib! Mark and I put it up about two weeks ago. It's pretty cute with the pale green walls. I had to pull out one of my favorite crib sheets that I made and put it on the mattress right away! It fit great! I also had to pull out the lamb mobile and put it together. I love it!

Here's a close up of the crib sheet. It's a flannel sheet with nursery rhymes on it.

Here are a few burp cloths I have made...I've already made and given away a lot of them to my friends who are expecting or just had their babies in the past two months. They are so soft and the perfect size. Here is the tutorial I used for them. http://homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/2008/01/burp-cloth-tutorial.html

Not sure why I can't rotate this one!

Lamb Baby Booties

Lately I've been busy making things for all of my pregnant friends/family. So I decided to make my first project for my baby! I found an easy tutorial for 3-seam Baby Footies online at New Conceptions. Here's the link for the free pattern. http://www.newconceptions.com/patpdf/Footiespdf.pdf  I decided to modify them a little bit and make mine into little lambs. :-)

Our 8 ounce Powerhouse!

Today we had our anatomy scan ultrasound! I've been looking forward to this since I found out I am pregnant! It was so much fun to see our little squirt moving all over. The baby has grown so much since the last time I was able to peek at him/her...For all of you who are wondering what the gender is, we are waiting until February to find out! The only person who knows is the ultrasonographer (spelling?) and I'm sure she forgot by now. :-)

The baby checked out perfect!! All parts of the anatomy are developing great. We even got a few 4-D pictures of the baby, which was a total surprise to me. I always thought they were pretty strict about not doing those without getting paid for them.

Here are some pictures from the photo shoot!

This is my favorite one...You can see the face great!

Little bit creepy looking, but also very cool.
The baby's face is turned and looking at us.

check out those long bony toes!

So much fun! Can't wait to meet this little one and cuddle!

Exciting News!!

I have been terrible at keeping my poor blog up-to-date! I've got lots of things to back post on, but on to my exciting news. We are expecting our first baby! I am just about 13 weeks pregnant, tomorrow to be exact! We are very excited and can't wait to meet the newest member of our family somewhere around February 22! (Carla and Washington's B-day) The nausea and vomiting has kept me away from doing much the past several weeks. I just keep thanking the Lord that I am pregnant and the baby is doing well!

Baby Gift For Brandi

My cousin Brandi's baby shower was today in Wisconsin. I'm sorry I missed it, but it's quite a drive from North Carolina. Now that she has her gift, it's safe to post pictures for the rest of you. I know a few of you have been anxiously awaiting these! I love the fabrics that I found for it!

The first thing I made was a baby quilt.

I love the fabrics! I made sure to buy a few yards of the cute bird flannel.
It is backed in a plush faux fur, swirly pink fabric. I even edged it in pink satin...it was my first attempt to do satin binding.

I made a matching lovey blanket for her with lots of tags. Next time, I'll make the tags shorter, it was my first one. :-)
Hope her baby girl enjoys them!

Mark's Invention

I've been planting lots of new trees, shrubs, and flowers since we moved in. Mark took pity on me when he saw me drag the 150-200 feet of hose as far as it would go in all directions from our house and then drag 5 gallon buckets of water to my plants. Here's what he made for me!

He added a big water tank to our lawn mower, so I can easily drive around and water everything!
